3-Day Desert Adventure from Marrakech to Merzouga
Embark on an unforgettable journey from the bustling city of Marrakech to the golden dunes of Merzouga. This 3-day desert tour is perfect for travelers eager to experience Morocco’s diverse landscapes — from the majestic High Atlas Mountains to the vast, silent Sahara. Along the way, you’ll encounter ancient kasbahs, lush oases, and traditional Berber villages, all culminating in a night under the stars in the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley
Your adventure begins early in Marrakech, crossing the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains. Enjoy panoramic views and traditional Berber villages as you make your way to the famous UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou. After a guided walk through this ancient ksar, continue to Ouarzazate, often called the "Hollywood of Africa." The journey proceeds through the Valley of Roses and into the stunning Dades Valley, where you'll spend the night in a charming guesthouse nestled between dramatic red rock formations.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, head towards Todra Gorge, a breathtaking canyon popular with rock climbers and nature lovers. Walk along the towering cliffs before continuing through the vast palm groves of the Tafilalt region. By afternoon, you’ll arrive in Merzouga, where your camel caravan awaits. Ride across the dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset and reach your desert camp. Enjoy a traditional Berber dinner, music around the campfire, and a night in a nomadic-style tent under a sky full of stars.
Day 3: Merzouga – Alnif – Draa Valley – Marrakech
Rise early to witness the magical sunrise over the dunes, then ride back by camel or 4x4 to Merzouga village. After breakfast, begin the return journey through the desert town of Alnif and the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river oasis dotted with ancient ksour and palm groves. Stop for lunch in Agdez before crossing the Atlas Mountains once more to arrive back in Marrakech by early evening — filled with lasting memories of your desert adventure.
